I downgraded to using only one of the 2GB modules and used the stock Synology RAM to give me 3GB. Everything ran perfectly fine after that.
Kingston ValueRAM & Toshiba NB-500D Netbook, April 23, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL7 SODIMM Single Rank x8 Notebook Memory (Personal Computers) I recently purchased a Toshiba NB-500D Netbook to replace my failed Advent 4211C netbook. I was dismayed to find that although these two netbooks have virtually identical specs, processor speeds, disks, etc, the Toshiba was pathetically slow compared to the Advent, and this is because it uses Windows 7 instead of Windows XP, and as Win 7 is a notorious memory hog, with only 1Gb there was very little memory left over for 'real' work to be done - in my case only about 160Mb.
The obvious answer was to increase the available RAM, and this is where the Kingston ValueRAM module came to the rescue. I ordered it from Amazon, and within two days it had been delivered from the US to Cyprus. The installation was simple, taking more time to remove and replace the bottom cover than anything else. Do make sure that the module is properly and securely inserted into the socket!
After replacing the cover, the power up sequence immediately reported the increased RAM, and,... Read more
